“As mom and mother in law of John, Kate and Viki I cannot tell you how much pride I feel. These 3 people have given me so much happiness and hope, and many other people too. May everything the three of you take on bring you great success and happiness, and as long as the three of you are together I will always know everything will be ok!
Love you loads.

“Slowly does it. Reaching the start line of the marathon is as much a mountain as the marathon itself. Chin up!”

Hi John, just read your blog. Wow. I use that word a lot…but….Wow! That’s some undertaking. Wish you all the luck in the world!

“Well done on the work you do raising awareness for lupus. I’m 21 and waiting for a double lung transplant due to lupus pneumonitis.”
Rachael Wakefield
Hey John,
I just thought I would leave some support on your site for all of the fantastic work you are doing and all of the pain you are going through yourself weekly with your Marathon training in support of Lupus sufferers. If you any need anything from me then you only need to ask and I’ll keep trying to spread the word for Lupus awareness as much as I can throughout 2010 and beyond via Twitter.

Hi John.
I know you don’t know me, but you started following me on Twitter so I checked you out. Now I am following you too. Even though we don’t know each other, I wanted to thank you for what you are doing by participating in a Marathon. I myself have lupus. I got really sick when I was 9 years old. It took them 2 years to figure out that it was lupus and by then I couldn’t walk. They gave me lots of medicine and physical therapy and I could walk again with a couple months. I was lucky. I met a 13 year old boy at my doctor’s office once and he was in a wheel chair. His parents said that me walking gave them hope. He died a few months later when the lupus attacked his heart. I am not telling you this to depress you. I just want to help. See, people don’t realize that lupus can be deadly. Most people don’t even know what lupus is. I have had to explain it more times than I can count. I do it because I think people should know.. I think what you are doing to show support for people with lupus and to help raise awareness is awesome. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that there are people like you out there who want to help. Lupus is horrible disease. I am 26 now so I have struggled with it for 16 years myself. Every day is a struggle. Even the better days are sometimes tough.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for what you are doing. I myself couldn’t run in one of these because of the damage done to my ankles from the disease and I don’t think there has ever been a lupus walk in my area. So thank you so much from me and anyone else who can’t run one of the marathons ourselves. Your efforts are much appreciated. Good luck on your run!
Sincerely,
Rebecca V.
Hi John.
I stumbled upon your Twitter account, and noticed all the work you do for lupus awareness. Just wanted to say a big “Thank you!” to you for your efforts. You see, my mom has lupus and I have watched her struggle with the disease for many years. I am so frustrated that lupus does not get the attention/support of the public that it deserves, based on the number of people who have the disease.
Again, thank you so much for all that you do to bring awareness to the cause.
Best regards,
Vicki K.
